What should I do about my DUI?
A few weeks ago i was charged with DUI and MIP. I am 16 years old and just entered my junior year of high school. I have been looking at colleges lately and my top choice right now is Tulane University. My academic credentials are high enough to gain admittance with a 3.8 GPA and a 31 cumulative ACT score so far, but i am worried that my DUI will keep my out of the college of my choice! I blew a .08 and my lawyer is working on getting my case moved to juvenile court right now. I just went online and checked the application at Tulane and it has a box asking whether or not i have ever been convicted of a crime. Should i check that box or not? How will this affect my acceptance chances? Help!
It was a one time thing… I have learned my lesson a hundred times over and will never do it again. I don’t need to be told to stop drinking and driving, thanks.

2)The question is have you been convicted of a crime. If you have been found guilty and paid the penalty the answer is yes. If not the answer is no. Honesty is the best policy.
If I were trying to get into Tulane I would check yes and send a letter detailing how it was an experiment where you used poor judgment, tell them about the class you are taking to learn more about the deleterious effects of underage alcohol consumption. I would also get a couple of respectable people to vouch for your character. It wouldn’t be a bad Idea to arrange a visit with the dean of admissions or his assistant and discuss matters with him.
Admit to your mistake, take full responsibility. Anything less will lessen your chances.
